Wake up bright and early and drive northwest through Balaju. Make a steady ascent to the edge of the Kathmandu Valley, finally reaching the Kakani Pass. According to legend, this lake was once discovered when the king of Gatlang was on a journey to find his lost hunting dog. It is now revered by women for its apparent power to increase fertility. Are you ready? Today is considered the most difficult day of the walk. But the reward far outweighs the horrible part. Descend slowly to Bamdang Kola, turning north through Chilim Kola, until you reach the town of Chilim (about 2 hours). After crossing the suspension bridge (always fun), start a strenuous climb of about 450 meters to Gonggang Village. It takes about 1.5 hours of steep climbing, but it’s a lunch break when you get there. The next section is a little more physically demanding as you continue to climb for about 2 hours until you reach Tatopani (2607 meters).

Pass through forests and rhododendron fields to reach the Bridim village of Tamang in the heart of the Langtang Himal. Going uphill takes just over 2 hours. Pass to Langtang National Park via Gumnachowk and Gottabella, finally reach Langtang Village (about 5-7 hours). Langtang National Park was established in 1976 to protect the region’s unique flora and fauna. Rhododendron, Nepal Alden and oak forests thrive here due to the warm conditions. In the morning follow the road to the reconstructed village of Kayanjin. Both sides of the road are flanked by stunning views of the snow-capped mountains in the distance. Today we meet Tamang and Sherpa residents on the road going about their daily lives. Today’s walk is between 4-5 hours. Try this evening with a short climb above the village for a stunning view of the surrounding valley.

You can choose how you want to spend your time today. Maybe wake up at 4:30 this morning for an optional hike to Kianjin Gompa (4800 meters) for a spectacular sunrise. It’s a tough 1-hour hike back in the dark, with 1000 meters of elevation gain on the way. If you wish, sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast before heading out to explore the village and learn more about the lifestyle of the Tamang and Sherpa communities. Keep your eyes peeled for a German bakery! You can also take a short hike to the glacier or try one of the fun hikes around the village.

After breakfast, return to Lama Hotel via Langtang and Ghoretabela. Today’s walk takes 7 hours with a descent of 1600 meters. The longest descent will be rewarded with a “Mountain Cold” Sherpa Beer (subject to availability).

Embrace another early start and after breakfast, head down the path through the wheat fields. Cross the Trisuli River through a suspension bridge. Follow the river for about 5 hours until you reach our accommodation in Tulo Siabru.
